  • SWANK is a streaming service accessible to Galveston College students and faculty. Faculty can request films and documentaries through SWANK for use in their courses.

    Getting Started

    • When accessing the SWANK portal, you will be prompted for your GC username and password. Once you are logged in, you may browse the available films.

    No Fees

    • Students can access the films available on our Digital Campus film library free of charge.

    Availability

    • Students will only be able to see films that have been licensed and added to Galveston College's Digital Campus catalog.

    Off-Campus Access

    • Swank is accessible off-campus using your GC username and password. Films in the Digital Campus catalog are available on and off campus.

Adding Films to the Catalog for Course Use

    • Faculty can view the full SWANK content catalog and request films to be licensed and made available for their courses.
    • Requests to add films will be submitted to the Director of Library and Learning Resources for approval.
    • Licensing agreements for films added to our Digital Campus catalog are valid for 1 year.

Showing over Zoom or other screen-sharing platforms

    • The SWANK streaming portal should not be used with screen-sharing platforms like WebEx, Teams, or Zoom, as this may lead to licensing issues. Additionally, these platforms cannot guarantee quality playback; while instructors may see smooth playback, students are likely to encounter audio and video disruptions.

    • Instructors should share a Direct Link in Canvas for students to watch the movie on their own devices, ensuring quality playback. They can use a virtual meeting application simultaneously for class discussions.

    Sharing Films with Students

    How to share film links

    • Faculty can search for the video title in SWANK database,  then use the Share button to copy either the Direct Link or the LMS Link.

    • When embedding a link in Canvas, please use the LMS link. The LMS Link is specifically for use within learning management systems like Canvas. Copy and paste the link using the "embed" icon on the rich text editor.
