The purpose of this course is to explore the foundations of the Humanities and to increase our understanding of the relationship between history and philosophy and how these relate to the issues concerning the human condition.

Literature, the Humanities, and Humanity attempt to make the study of literature more than simply another school subject that students have to take. This book tries to show the value of reading and studying literature, even earlier literature. It shows students, some of whom will themselves become teachers, that literature has something to say to them.
