The following patrons have library privileges and need library cards (provided at the IT Helpdesk):
Community members may obtain a College Library Card for a $20 annual fee. The requirements for community members are the patron must be over 16 years of age, a resident within the boundaries of the Galveston College Tax District, have a valid Texas photo ID card, and must be clear of outstanding fines or fees at the patron's local library. Patrons must have a Texas photo ID and proof of residency, such as a utility bill, with them in order to obtain their card.
Community members follow the same procedures as Galveston College students and staff, but there are limitations on loan periods and the number of items loaned. Community members cannot access databases or other electronic resources that require authentication.
To obtain a community card, fill out and submit the Community Patron Card Request Form. The GC Library will retain one copy of the form for record keeping and another copy must be delivered to the Business Office, along with the $20 annual fee. Following the transaction, the library will need a copy of the $20 receipt from the Business Office. After the receipt has been filed, the IT/Media Services department will issue a library community card that will give the patron a year of access to checkout books at the GC library.
The Galveston College Library participates in TexShare and accepts valid TexShare cards from participating libraries.
LOAN LIMITS
Loan Periods & Limits for Library Users by Galveston College Library
RENEWING MATERIALS
Materials may be renewed online through My Account in the online library catalog, in person at the Circulation Desk, or by phone at 409.944.1240. Two renewals are permitted on most print books. Laptops are renewed on a case-by-case basis. Each renewal period will be the same length of checkout as the original loan period. Materials placed on hold by another patron CAN NOT be renewed. Overdue fines must be paid in full before an item can be renewed.
OVERDUE MATERIALS
The library encourages all patrons to return library materials on time as a courtesy to others. Overdue materials hinder other patrons' access to library resources.
Patrons are responsible for returning library materials by the due date. As a courtesy reminder, overdue notices are emailed to patrons' Whitecaps email accounts. Overdue notices are sent seven days after an item is due.
If library materials are not returned by the end of the semester in which they are checked out, a hold will be placed on the student's record in Colleague. A library holds prevent students from receiving grades, transcripts, and future registration.
The library charges fines for lost materials:
Unpaid library fines will result in a loss of borrowing privileges and a hold on the patron's record in Colleague. Library fines can be paid at the Business Office.
The Business Office accepts credit card payments. If paying by credit card, please check your library account online via the library catalog, or call the Circulation Desk at 409.944.1240 to confirm the amount of your fine. Upon successfully paying a fine, a library holds will be removed from Colleague.
